“…The X‐ray absorption spectra of FLG and HOPG were measured using monochromatic synchrotron radiation and the facilities of the Russian–German optical beamline (RGBL) at the BESSY II synchrotron radiation source . The samples were placed into a measuring high vacuum chamber with a residual gas pressure of ∼5 × 10 –10 Torr.…”

“…Note first that the FLG spectrum by the general appearance of the near fine structure (NFS), the number and energy positions of its major features A–F perfectly reproduces all basic features of the spectrum of pyrographite crystal HOPG. This means that the most characteristic peaks of absorption (resonances) A and B–C are due to dipole‐permitted transitions of electrons in the carbon atom to the free states of π‐ and σ‐symmetries of the graphite crystal conductivity bands which are formed from the π2p z ‐ and π2p z ‐states of carbon atoms oriented perpendicular and parallel, respectively, to the plane of carbon layer (graphene) . It is worth noting that by their nature these states are quasimolecular, i.e.…”

“…N-K edge X-ray absorption spectra (XAS), Valence band spectra and Work function spectra were recorded at the Russian-German beamline of electron storage ring BESSY-II (Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin) using the beamline ultrahigh vacuum experimental station 75 . The XAS measurements were performed in the total electron yield (TEY) mode realized by sweeping the incident photon energy and simultaneously recording the sample drain current.…”

“…The X-ray photoelectron spectra were measured on the Russian–German channel of the BESSY-II electron storage ring (Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Berlin, Germany), using an ultrahigh vacuum experimental station on the beam channel [ 39 ]. The survey X-ray photoelectron spectra were measured at an excitation energy of 736 eV with a step of 0.5 eV, 200 μm slit width, and an energy pass value of 50 meV.…”
