High Temperature Corrosion Behaviors of 20G Steel, Hastelloy C22 Alloy and C22 Laser Coating under Reducing Atmosphere with H2S

Abstract: High-temperature corrosion behaviors of 20G steel, Hastelloy C22 alloy and C22 laser coating was evaluated by corrosion mass gain measurements at 450 °C. The corrosive atmosphere is 0.2 vol% H2S–0.1 vol% O2–N2, which simulated the severe high-temperature corrosion environment occurred under low-NOx combustion in pulverized-coal furnaces. Experimental results showed that the corrosion resistance of the C22 laser coating and the C22 alloy was obviously better than 20G steel. Furthermore, it should be noted that … Show more

“…As is widely known, laser cladding coating technology is an effective measure to obtain excellent surface properties because of confirmed advantages such as high energy density, metallurgical bonding, low dilution rate, and small heat affected zone [42][43][44][45]. Furthermore, various laser cladding Ni-Cr-Mo alloy coatings show excellent corrosion resistance in several conventional corrosive solutions at room temperature [46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53]. “…During the fabrication of laser-cladding coatings, the 20G steel substrate with dimensions of 20 × 20 × 5 cm was polished and cleaned with acetone. Following prior research [ 27 , 28 ], the laser-cladding parameters were set as follows: beam spot was 1.4 mm in diameter, laser power was 2000 W, overlap ratio was 40%, laser scan speed was 8 mm/s, and the flow rate of argon was 5 L/min. In order to reduce the negative effect of dilution rate on the corrosion resistance of the laser coatings, the thickness of the laser coating prepared on the surface of the 20 G substrate by the multitrack cladding process was set at 5 mm.…”

“…Overall, the average values of the three specimens were considered the final mass-gain data for each sample. The mass gain (mg/cm 2 ) highlighting the corrosion resistance of specimens was calculated as [ 28 ]: where Δ m (g) denotes the average cumulative mass gain of three parallel specimens determined simultaneously with increasing corrosion time, and A represents the surface area of the samples.…”

“…20G steel, as a common material of biomass carbonation kettle coil, has been studied by many scholars. Specimens mass loss method, surface morphology microscopic analysis, and artificial neural network are used to measure the degradation of material properties [ 13 , 14 , 15 ]; however, are rarely seen in systematic mechanical material tests. In this paper, the gas phase of N 2 , CO 2 , O 2 , and water vapor is used for heat treatment to simulate real corrosion conditions.…”
