High-voltage measurements on the 5 ppm relative uncertainty level with collinear laser spectroscopy

Abstract: We present the results of high-voltage collinear laser spectroscopy measurements on the 5 ppm relative uncertainty level using a pump and probe scheme at the transition of involving the metastable state. With two-stage laser interaction and a reference measurement we can eliminate systematic effects such as differences in the contact potentials due to different electrode materials and thermoelectric voltages, and the unknown starting potential of the ions in the ion source. Voltage measurements were perform… Show more

“…Unexpectedly, changes in the frequency discrepancy between comb and wavelength meter in the MHz regime were observed during this measurement. • Similar deviations have been observed during measurements at the collinear apparatus albeit without consequences for the experiments since they were conducted at a fixed frequency [19,20]. In these cases, the lasers were stabilized by wavelength meters but continuously measured with a comb.…”

“…In order to equip our collinear beamline COALA (COllinear Apparatus for Laser spectroscopy and Applied science) at TU Darmstadt [24][25][26] with a versatile ion source that will also serve the LASPEC experiment at FAIR [27], we are currently developing a laserablation ion source. The source is designed to reduce necessary DC fields to a minimum, but maintaining a high transport efficiency by He gas flow.…”

“…The work functions of the source and spectrometer should be constant on the time scale of the measurements 4. With a very different technique[26], collinear laser spectroscopy on Doppler-shifted ions, an absolute high voltage calibration has been reported recently. This novel method profits from eliminating systematics by performing two measurements at two different Doppler-shifts similarly to the method reported here.…”
