Higher radial orders of Laguerre–Gaussian beams in nonlinear wave mixing processes

Abstract: We generalize the study of Laguerre–Gaussian beams in nonlinear wave mixing processes, considering optical beams with both integer azimuthal and non-null radial mode index as input modes combined in the nonlinear crystal. Here, we present a deeper discussion of the generation of higher radial orders through a nonlinear wave mixing process leading to a more complete understanding of the nonlinear process considered.

“…Interestingly, the coupling is not only between light and matter, but between differences in structure of the fields themselves, particularly within a given family. For instance, the “untwisting” of the azimuthal phase of an OAM LG mode, in turn, alters the radial index 196 , with the rules governing this interaction only recently unveiled 197 , and shown to be true for wave mixing processes of any order 198 . Similar processes have been observed with HG modes 199 , Ince-Gaussian 200 , 201 and Bessel-Gaussian modes 202 , confirming OAM conservation 87 and exploring the selection rules of these families.…”

“…The combination between structured laser beams and nonlinear transformation on the transverse pattern variation has been of great interest in recent years. The SFG, 127 130 SHG, 131 140 FWM, 141 , 142 and other frequency upconversion 143 145 methods have been studied in the nonlinear process of structured laser beams. The variation of OAM in the nonlinear process are one of the focuses of these studies.…”

“…This conservation law is also applicable to fractional and odd-order OAM beams 134 . The generation of LG beams with higher radial orders and IG beams through a nonlinear wave mixing process was further investigated to obtain more complex beam patterns 130 , 139 , 140 . However, in the above studies, the characteristics of the frequency-doubled beam patterns during propagation have hardly been mentioned.…”
