Highly Efficient, Rapid, and Simultaneous Removal of Cationic Dyes from Aqueous Solution Using Monodispersed Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles as the Adsorbent

Abstract: In this work, a highly efficient and rapid method for simultaneously removing cationic dyes from aqueous solutions was developed by using monodispersed mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) as the adsorbents. The MSNs were prepared by a facile one-pot method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller. Experimental results demonstrated that the as-prepared MSNs possessed a large specific surface area (… Show more

“…SEM analysis was incredible analysis for showing the surface morphologies of SBA-15 samples. Figures 5 shows that the mesoporous silica SBA-15 consists of the narrow pore with well ordered hexagonal arrays of mesoporous materials [25,27,28] The comparison between Figure 7(a) and 7(b) reveals that the increased the time of the hydrothermal treatment can reduce the aggregate into well ordered porous materials. The SEM image of SBA_5 gives an expression that the sample relative uniform.…”

“…disposal or regeneration. For example, in the case of this study, the use of high temperature (normally >500 C) or organic solvent would be needed to regenerate dye-saturated adsorbents for recycle and reuse, 41,42 which may add further cost and complexity to the process. Advanced oxidation process (AOPs) have shown advantageous features as compared with adsorption.…”

“…In the past decade, mesoporous silica had been considerably made as a structural basis for nanotechnological applications as it is porous, thermally stable, non-toxic and hydrothermally stable [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ]. Furthermore, as it has uniform and tunable channels with a pore diameter ranging from 2~50 nm, it can also be used to control the size of nanoparticles and make them homodisperse during their formation [ 6 ].…”
