Highly selective aerobic oxidation of alkylarenes catalyzed by cobalt‐based nanocatalyst in aqueous solution

Abstract: The catalytic aerobic oxidation of alkylarenes catalyzed by cobalt supported on a highly crystalline γ‐Al2O3 support (Co/Al2O3 nanocatalyst) is reported. The catalyst was prepared by a co‐precipitation method and characterized using scanning and high‐resolution transmission electron microscopies, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction and surface area measurements. A wide range of alkylarenes were converted to corresponding ketones. The catalyst can be recovered by simple filtration is recycla… Show more

“…The peaks observed at 2θ = 36.58, 2θ = 47.86 and 2θ = 63.32 may be related to 111, 202 and 113 planes of CuO, respectively . It is valuable to note that the peaks related to different phases of Al 2 O 3 as α, δ, θ and γ, δ, θ appeared at about 2θ = 36.58 and 2θ = 47.86 . This XRD interpretation can be stated, because the percentages of Al 2 O 3 (10% w/w) and CuO (5% w/w) in the target nanocatalyst are nearly close.…”

“…Based on the literature, the catalytic application of ZnO‐supported CuO/Al 2 O 3 (CuO/ZnO/Al 2 O 3 nanocatalyst) has not been studied on organic synthesis reactions, particularly for the synthesis of propargylamines. In previous researches, we have reported the catalytic activity of various nanocatalysts on the organic synthesis reactions . In an extension of our research, herein, we wish to report the preparation and characterization of an efficient recyclable kind of ZnO‐supported CuO/Al 2 O 3 nanocatalyst (Cu/ZnO/Al 2 O 3 nanocatalyst) as well as its catalytic activity on the synthesis of propargylamines under solvent‐free conditions (Scheme ).…”

“…The oxidation of 4-ethylnitrobenzene to 4-nitroacetophenone was also developed by using various catalysts, like sodium o-iodobenzenesulfonate, 17 codoped material, 18 cis-[Ru(dtbpy) 2 Cl 2 ], 19 and a nanocatalyst. 20 However, some problems still requie resolution, for example, the development of environmentally friendly oxidants and mild reaction conditions, the design of economical catalysts, and enhancement of the reaction selectivity.…”

“…Traditionally, a stoichiometric amount of hazardous oxidants, such as KMnO 4 , H 2 O 2 , TBHP, or Ozone, were employed in direct oxidation of inert α-H of alkylarenes catalyzed by metal catalysts, nanometer materials, MOFs, mesoporous materials, or organic metal compounds, and great progress has been made. The oxidation of 4-ethylnitrobenzene to 4-nitroacetophenone was also developed by using various catalysts, like sodium o -iodobenzenesulfonate, codoped material, cis -[Ru(dtbpy) 2 Cl 2 ], and a nanocatalyst . However, some problems still requie resolution, for example, the development of environmentally friendly oxidants and mild reaction conditions, the design of economical catalysts, and enhancement of the reaction selectivity.…”
