Highly sensitive determination of tetracycline in chicken meat and eggs using AuNP/ MWCNT-modified glassy carbon electrodes

Abstract: Glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) were modified with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by means of sputtering and electrodeposition. The electrodeposited MWCNT on gold coated GCE exhibited the optimum performance as characterized using cyclic voltammetry. The limit of detection and limit of quantitation were found to be 42 ppb and 139 ppb, respectively. The modified electrode was used as working electrode in differential pulse voltammetry to detect tetracycline (TET) residues i… Show more

“…Electrochemical methods, which are simple, fast, sensitive, inexpensive, environmentally friendly, have been known as potential methods for tetracycline determination [ 19 ]. Voltammetric methods using carbon-based electrodes modified with various materials [ 5 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ] have been reported for determination of TC in real samples. Most of the reported electrode surface modifiers are not readily available, are expensive, and the modification seem to be time taking.…”

“…LC‐MS/MS (Anderson et al., 2018; Ang et al., 2017; Furi et al., 2018; Mookantsa et al., 2016), LC with UV detection (Alrhia et al., 2019; Aman et al., 2017; Feng et al., 2016; Gogoi et al., 2017; Ma et al., 2020; Patrabansh et al., 2020), and LC coupled to FLD (Weng et al., 2019) have been the most used for this purpose. However, others methods based on surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS; Zhao et al., 2016) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) using glassy carbon electrode modified with gold NPs (Palisoc et al., 2019) have been also described. Table 3 includes the most representative studies published dealing with the determination of TCs extracted from meat samples.…”

“…TCs extraction remains a difficult task as they are soluble in acids, bases, or polar organic solvents, but not in saturated hydrocarbons (Santos & Ramos, 2016). These compounds are commonly extracted from the meat using EDTA-McIlvaine buffer, also known as citratephosphate buffer (Alrhia, Mohamad, & Mearoug, 2019;Aman, Ahmed, Mostafa, Kitada, & Kar, 2017;Anderson et al, 2018;Ang, Estaniel, & Guidote, 2017;Gogoi, Roy, & Sinha, 2017;Palisoc et al 2019;Patrabansh et al, 2020), although other organic solvents such as ACN (Feng et al, 2016;Furi, Sinagasa, & Putra, 2018;Mookantsa et al, 2016;Weng et al, 2019, Ma et al, 2020 and ethyl acetate (Zhao et al, 2016) have been also employed. Once in solution, SPE using commercial sorbents, such as C 18 and HLB, are normally used.…”

“…By modifying the electrode surface with nanostructured material, for example graphene, the electrocatalytic effect and the electroactive surface are enhanced. Also, by silver particles deposited on the BDD electrode, the electrocatalytic activity is reflected by the higher rate of transfer electrons and by the improvement of sensitivity regarding the electrochemical detection of the target analytes [24][25][26].…”
