Highly Sensitive Temperature Sensors Based on Fiber-Optic PWM and Capacitance Variation Using Thermochromic Sensing Membrane

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, we propose a temperature/thermal sensor that contains a Rhodamine-B sensing membrane. We applied two different sensing methods, namely, fiber-optic pulse width modulation (PWM) and an interdigitated capacitor (IDC)-based temperature sensor to measure the temperature from 5˝C to 100˝C. To the best of our knowledge, the fiber-optic PWM-based temperature sensor is reported for the first time in this study. The proposed fiber-optic PWM temperature sensor has good sensing ability; its sensit… Show more

“…DTC is a new high-performance speed control theory for AC motors, which is fundamentally different from magnetic field directional control theory. DTC directly controls the stator flux and torque of a motor in the stator coordinate system [15][16][17]. e realization of DTC refers first to establish an off-line optimal switching table, then according to the torque and hysteresis controller designed to select the appropriate voltage space vector from the optimal switching table, and then through the inverter to output the required voltage acting on the motor stator winding.…”

“…Thermochromic liquid crystals are also popular as a flow visualization tool . Recent research has explored the feasibility of developing thermochromic liquid crystal material–based fiber‐optic temperature sensors offering real‐time sensing response and low fabrication costs . Thermochromic liquid crystals have also been trialed for use as a temperature sensor for components of electrical systems to facilitate the identification of defects by easy visual identification of the hot spots …”

“…In previous work, we proposed using thermochromic fluorescent molecules dispersed into a host polymer as a new class of TTI sensor for ITD in CFRE [ 28 ]. Thermochromic fluorescence has been used as the basis for reversible “fluorescence thermometers” which cannot retain the necessary time information [ 21 , 29 ]. Irreversible thermal history sensors based on thermochromic fluorescence of lanthanide metals have inappropriate dynamic time and temperature ranges for aerospace composite applications [ 30 , 31 ].…”
