Histological and Histomorphometrical Evaluation of Postextractive Sites Grafted withMg‐Enriched Nano‐Hydroxyapatite: A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing 4 Versus 12 Months of Healing

Abstract: Data from the present study show that Mg-e HA allows the complete healing of the tissue. Additionally, graft material demonstrated to undergo significant resorption during the experimental time frame.

“…ARP aims to minimize external resorption of the ridge and to maximize bone formation within the socket. Various techniques have been described in literature, frequently varying greatly in difficulty and biomaterials used (Jung et al 2013, Barone et al 2015c, Canullo et al 2015, Ikawa et al 2015, Lee et al 2015, Mendoza-Azpur et al 2015, Sbordone et al 2015. The use of autologous bone particles did not significantly alter the ridge resorptive process (Ara ujo & Lindhe, 2011).…”

“…However, to date, controversy still remains, whether the porcine-derived bone is completely reabsorbable [27]. Non-resorbtion might not only result in shielding of the newly formed bone from physiological stresses necessary for further remodelling and maturation, but the presence of residual graft particles could also influence or interference with osseointegration process of dental implants, and bone-to-implant contact [28,29]. Moreover, as suggested by other authors, granules around the dental implant body could represent a locus minoris resistentiae in case of peri-implant infection [30].…”

“…In this study, 2 slides from the titanium group and one slide from the gold alloy group had to be excluded due to voids presented in the middle of the tissue. Moreover, different slide thicknesses for the resin embedded specimens, ranging from 10 to 120 μm, were reported in previous studies . The thicknesses of the slides that were suitable for the evaluations in this study were 40–60 μm.…”

“…Moreover, different slide thicknesses for the resin embedded specimens, ranging from 10 to 120 lm, were reported in previous studies. 8,10,13,20 The thicknesses of the slides that were suitable for the evaluations in this study were 40-60 lm. The slides that were too thin caused dislodgement of the metal part and resulted in cracked lines on the remaining parts of the specimens.…”
