HLA-A, -B, -DR haplotype frequencies in the Thai Stem Cell Donor Registry

Abstract: This study aimed to report antigen and haplotype frequencies (HFs) in the Thai Stem Cell Donor Registry (TSCDR). From 16,807 human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-A, -B, and -DR typed donors, 19 HLA-A, 41 HLA-B, and 13 HLA-DR antigens were found. HLA-A43, A80, B78, B82, B83, and DR18 were not observed. A total of 1921 haplotypes were estimated and 245 haplotypes were reliable and their cumulative HF was 75.74%. Similar to previous Thai subpopulation studies, the most common haplotypes were HLA-A33-B58-DR17 (4.54%), A2… Show more

“…Although 3.3% of the healthy Thai population are HLA‐B27‐positive, a high prevalence of HLA‐B27‐positive ERA patients was shown in this study . This finding is in line with many Asian studies, especially in Chinese populations, which had high prevalence of spondyloarthropathy and HLA‐B27 .…”

“…Therefore, it is possible that HLA-B*46 was in a LD with a polymorphism locus of a HLA class II gene, which might influence professional antigen presenting cells through aberrant expression of HLA class II molecules on thyrocytes. However, in Asian populations, the HLA-B*46 are partly in LD of the DRB1*08:03, HLA-DRB1*09:01 and HLA-DRB1*14:03 alleles 47-49. It was also interesting to find that DRB1*08:03, HLA-DRB1*09:01 and HLA-DRB1*14:03 were associated with GD in Asian populations 14, 20, 22, 50.…”

“…The phylogenetic tree is constructed with HLA-A, -B and -DRB1 allele frequencies presented in Table 2 and the published data for the northern Han Chinese from the Shaanxi region [10], southern Han Chinese from the Guangdong region [11], Koreans from Seoul Korea [12], Minnan ethnic group from Taiwan [13], Thai people in Thailand [14] and Japanese in Japan [15]. Liaoning is a province in the northeastern part of China as shown in the map of China (Figure 1).…”
