Holographic Reflectors for Enhanced Reflective LCDs

Abstract: Monocolor and multicolor holographic reflectors have been designed and fabricated using DuPont holographic photopolymers. High brightness, saturated color and a choice of well-defined center wavelengths have been demonstrated. When affixed to the back of reflective LCDs, they provide enhanced contrast and brightness. The environmental stability and optical performance of DuPont films have demonstrated that they exceed the specifications of all Motorola portable products.Commercial products will be introduced i… Show more

“…Holographic reflectors (HRs) have been successfully introduced into portable reflective LCD products including pagers, cellular phones and watches. 2 These components are off-axis reflective holographic diffusers that redirect incoming light to an angle away from the glare angle of the display. By separating the viewing angle from the glare angle the contrast is improved.…”

“…Volume reflection holograms (VRH), recorded on photopolymer materials, are becoming widely used now in practice 2 Such holograms are characterized by the following parameters: diffraction efficiency (DE), calculated from the data on transmittance (T) or reflection of the hologram, wavelength of a peak of reflection (X width of spectral response (&) and angular selectivity (EO).…”

“…The data of full-processed holograms treated by UV exposure and heating are shown in the researches of the VRH 2 For more complete understanding of the mechanism of VRH formation, it is necessary to know the change of diffraction efficiency and spectral characteristics at different stages of recording. It is important especially in the research of the influence of the recording media shrinkage on the spectral characteristics of the hologram.…”
