Home energy management as a service over networking platforms

Abstract: About 40% of the U.S. primary energy is consumed in the buildings. Therefore, to manage the energy consumption and its usages pattern, for instance, the U.S. state of California mandated Zero Net Energy buildings by 2020 for the residential sector (22% of the U.S. primary energy). Moreover, towards this goal, U.S. Department of Energy, Building Technologies Office is trying to develop techniques to improve the efficiency of buildings. Home Energy Management (HEM) may be used to improve the energy consumption i… Show more

“…FC expends the paradigm of CC to the edge of the network, which also may support IoT with the ability to precompute the data in eliminating the low inactivity, which is useful in energy management systems. 31,32 Therefore, controlling power generation and consumption is possible by energy management. The first step in this section is to discuss the selected energy management strategies in the FC and describe their main features.…”

“…The first step in this section is to discuss the selected energy management strategies in the FC and describe their main features. An energy management strategy as a service on the FC has been proposed by Vatanparvar et al 32 They have stated that the flexibility, connectivity, data secrecy, and real-time features needed for energy managing have been authorized by performing FC statement. The user can control the energy management policy by providing open-source hardware/software.…”

“…This new paradigm is called Cyber-Physical Energy System (CPES), where the demand side of the power grid, may comprise of multiple distributed generators, energy storage, and loads [2]. Moreover, various sophisticated cyber-physical energy management systems need to be implemented in order to efficiently monitor and manage the loads [3] in a CPES. Energy management system may be implemented for any type of buildings and microgrids 1 , e.g.…”
