Homometallic DyIII Complexes of Varying Nuclearity from 2 to 21: Synthesis, Structure, and Magnetism

Abstract: The synthesis, structure, and magnetic properties of four Dy coordination compounds isolated as [Dy (LH ) (μ -η :η -Piv)]Cl⋅2 MeOH⋅H O (1), [Dy (LH) (μ -OH) (Piv) (MeOH) ]⋅4 MeOH⋅2 H O (2), [Dy (LH ) (tfa) (O PtBu)(Cl) ]Cl ⋅15.5 H O⋅4 MeOH⋅5 CHCl (3) and [Dy (L) (LH) (tfa) ]Cl ⋅15 H O⋅7 MeOH⋅12 CHCl (4) are reported (Piv=pivalate, tfa=1,1,1-trifluoroacetylacetone, O PtBu=tert-butylphosphonate). Among these, 3 displays an equilateral triangle topology with a side length of 9.541 Å and a rare pentagonal-bipyrami… Show more

“…Though this strategy is very successful, various methods are also established to synthesize these clusters in a controlled way. Apart from intensive magnetic studies, [5] polynuclear metal complexes are getting tremendous attention for their catalytic activities as they serve as excellent Lewis acids. Their stability and compatibility in different solvents even making them one of the best in this area of research.…”

“…Most recently, Liu and co‐workers has reported molecular magnet behavior of cocrystal containing a tetranuclear metallocage and mononuclear Dy III ‐radical complex . As a matter of fact, there has been a ever‐present interest in the field of lanthanide coordination chemistry due to their promising applications for the development of catalysts and photoluminescent and molecular magnetic materials. Also, multifunctional sensors based on lanthanide complexes have received much attention due to their unique luminescence properties arising from the 4f electrons of Ln(III) ions, large Stokes shift, long lifetimes and sharp emission property .…”
