Mammary gland histology and milk production were studied in 6 Awassi ewes induced to lactate by the administration of oestradiol‐progesterone for 7 days followed by dexamethasone on days 18 to 20. Mammary tissue biopsies were taken 17 and 23 days after initiation of treatment in the non‐pregnant ewes and 2–4 days before and 2 days after parturition in the controls.
