Hormonal induction of ovulation in pikeperch (Sander lucioperca L.) using human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and mammalian GnRH analogue

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to study spawning stimulation in artificial reproduction of females pikeperch (Sander lucioperca L.) using ''Chorulon'' containing the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and compare with ''Supergestran'' containing a mammalian GnRH ([D-Ala 6 ]GnRHProNhet) analogue. The females were divided into eleven experimental groups and injected with hCG at 250, 500, 750, and 1 000 IU kg -1 body weight (BW) and mGnRHa at 1, 2.5, 5, 10, 25, and 50 lg kg -1 BW. In all treatments, a single in… Show more

“…Hormonal stimulation is applied differently in two groups of cyprinid fish (Podhorec and Kouril, 2009). In fish with one-off spawning, carp pituitary homogenate (CPH) is usually used in in-season reproduction, as well as preparations containing GnRH analogue with dopamine inhibitor (DA) or combinations of CPH with hCG (Kucharczyk et al, 2005;Brzuska, 2005Brzuska, , 2006Kristan et al, 2013;Nowosad et al, 2014b). In batch-spawning fish, like in percids (such as perch Perca fluviatilis L.), there can be other agents used successfully except for the preparations mentioned above, such as hCG, FSH+LH, or analogues of GnRH (Kucharczyk et al, 1998;Targońska and Kucharczyk, 2011;Targońska et al, 2012a).…”

“…Longer preparation could have a reflection in fertilization rate as the spawning substrates are suspected to stimulate the papilla of the male during nest cleaning.Although hormone stimulation of pikeperch broodstock is often recommended in aquaculture to synchronize spawning(Kristan, Alavi, Stejskal, & Policar, 2013;Samarin, Blecha, Bytyutskyy, & Policar, 2015;Zarski et al, 2015) in this study, spawning was not hormone-T A B L E 2 Water temperature dynamic during 14 days of the experiment. This finding did not affect other parameters of pikeperch reproduction; however, it may be interesting from an ecological point of view.…”

“…Sperm was collected from 12 mature pikeperch (body mass 871.58 ± 31.00 g (mean ± standard deviation), total length 466.9 ± 41.0 mm) 48 h after spermiation induction using a single intramuscular injection of hCG at 500 IU/kg (Křišťan et al, 2013). Spermatozoa concentration was assessed by light microscopy, using a Burker haemocytometer (Marienfield, Konigshofen, Germany), following the method of Alavi et al (2009a).…”
