How Long Does It Last to Systematically Make Bad Decisions? An Agent-Based Application for Dividend Policy

Abstract: Bad decisions have harmful effects on the quality of human life and an increase of their duration expands these undesirable effects. Systematic bad decisions related to dividend policy can affect the investors’ quality of life in the long-term. We propose an agent-based model for the estimation of the duration of systematically making bad decisions, with an application on dividend policy. We propose an algorithm that can be used in modelling the interaction between different classes of shareholders and for pre… Show more

“…Agent-based modeling has been a common choice when building models that involve a human component exposed to different economic and social situations ( Damaceanu, 2008 , Delcea et al, 2020 , Dragotă and Delcea, Nov. 2019 , Dreżewski and Doroz, Aug. 2017 ) and has proven its applicability in incorporating the variability in human behavior in a model to observe emergent behavior and how small changes in different values of the parameters can lead to various levels of outputs ( Currie et al, 2020 , Wilensky, 1997 , Wilensky and Rand, 2015 ).…”

“…These changes have affected small businesses in different ways depending on their industry, location, and customer base. Some small businesses have faced challenges, such as reduced demand, supply chain disruptions, cash flow problems, and health risks [9,10]. Others found opportunities, such as new markets, digital transformation, innovation, and customer loyalty [5].…”

“…Over time, ABM has been successfully applied to various research fields as it offers the possibility to model the subject under investigation in terms of agents and their interactions [3]. Noteworthy among these realms of applicability, though not exhaustive, are economics [4], dividend policy [5], sustainable resources management [6], organizational studies [7], manufacturing [8], marketing [9], electricity markets [10], social research [11], human infectious disease epidemiology [12], mobility behavior [13], land use [14], constructions [15], education [16], archeology [17], environmental management [18], evacuation [19,20], and social networks [21].…”
