Transport is an essential infrastructure for development. With its high share of gross domestic product (GDP), it makes a significant contribution to total CO2 emissions in Malaysia. It is therefore important to pay greater attention to reducing CO2 emissions and sustainable development in this sector. Therefore, this study aims at estimating the relationship between transport CO2 emissions and its key drivers using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique. The time period covered by the study extends from 1978 to 2018. It further investigates the response of CO2 emissions to shocks in the value of other variables by employing the generalized impulse response approach. The results suggest that urbanization is the major contributor to the increase in CO2 emissions followed by the carbon intensity of energy in the long-run. Carbon intensity of energy, GDP per transport worker and urbanization contribute significantly to increases in transport CO2 emissions in the short- and long-run. Testing the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis recommends that Malaysia continue to be on track to reach the highest level of income and welfare to give pay more attention to the environment. Therefore, the country maintains its CO2 emissions level in the future because of economic development. Therefore, these findings show that energy and environmental policymakers need to pay more attention to improving energy efficiency and the use of low-carbon technologies and electrification in the transport sector and the use of high-quality public transport, particularly in urban areas, for sustainable urban development.

The pressure of climate action becomes more crucial, especially to achieve the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. In the Paris Agreement, Malaysia has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the economy by 45% in 2030. Malaysia has taken proper action to ensure the reduction of carbon emissions. Still, it only focuses on tax incentives and motivations toward a clean environment without involving tax penalties for the emitters. Policymakers worldwide are now changing to tax-based policies to lessen carbon emissions. Malaysia is also expected to implement the carbon tax soon. This study aims to determine Malaysia's crucial carbon emission sector and investigate the perception of implementing a carbon tax in Malaysia. This study uses desk research and questionnaires to collect data from the industry, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, and the public. This study has successfully identified key sectors responsible for significant carbon emissions and gathered respondents' perceptions towards implementing a carbon tax. The implications of the study are also highlighted.

Angkutan perintis merupakan program pelayanan angkutan jalan untuk wilayah terisolasi dan tidak memiliki ketersediaan angkutan umum. Salah satu trayek angkutan jalan perintis di Provinsi Banten adalah trayek Serang-Sumur (143 km) yang menghubungkan Ibu Kota Provinsi Banten yaitu Kota Serang dengan wilayah paling barat Pulau Jawa yaitu Kecamatan Sumur. Angkutan jalan perintis trayek Serang-Sumur sudah beroperasi selama lima tahun (2017 - 2021), namun dampaknya terhadap mobilitas masyarakat belum diketahui. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan penelitian untuk mengidentifikasi perkembangan produksi dan layanan yang telah tersedia, dan pengaruh layanan angkutan jalan perintis terhadap mobilitas masyarakat. Untuk mendukung penelitian ini, dilakukan pengumpulan data sekunder berupa data sarana prasarana yang telah tersedia dan produksi angkutan jalan perintis (load factor) dari tahun 2017-2021. Selanjutnya, data primer dikumpulkan dengan bantuan kuisioner kepada 200 penumpang. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah metode statistik deskriptif serta metode analisis regresi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kehadiran angkutan jalan perintis yang melayani trayek Serang-Sumur sangat memengaruhi mobilitas masyarakat di Kecamatan Sumur. Dengan adanya angkutan jalan perintis tersebut, frekuensi perjalanan masyarakat meningkat sebesar 36,38%, jarak tempuh perjalanan masyarakat meningkat sebesar 18,47%, dan kemudahan perjalanan masyarakat meningkat sebesar 46,07%. Selain itu, dengan menggunakan angkutan jalan perintis tersebut, biaya perjalanan dapat dikurangi sebesar 48,45% atau bernilai 1,94 kali lebih hemat daripada menggunakan moda lain.
