Human Breathomics Database

Abstract: Breathomics is a special branch of metabolomics that quantifies volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from collected exhaled breath samples. Understanding how breath molecules are related to diseases, mechanisms and pathways identified from experimental analytical measurements is challenging due to the lack of an organized resource describing breath molecules, related references and biomedical information embedded in the literature. To provide breath VOCs, related references and biomedical information, we aim to o… Show more

“…However, cases of oral lichen planus and lichenoid inflammatory reaction to epithelial changes also have been reported [43]. Rarely, anomalies of bone marrow may appear before the typical mucocutaneous presentations, with the marrow abnormalities manifesting at age 4-5 years, which is proposed to be the most severe phenotype of the disease [25,45,[47][48][49][50]. In our case, no marrow abnormalities have been reported suggesting that this case may represent an incomplete expression (forme fruste) phenotype of this condition that had been reported by Bryan & Nixon, 1965 [51].…”

“…Breathomics research is accelerating especially by introduction of databases such as Human Breathomics Database (HBDB), [11] METLIN [105] and MassBank. [106] HBDB for example contains a total of 913 VOCs in relation to human exhaled breath researches reported in 2,766 publications.…”

“…When analyzing breath biomarkers, we will mine the human breathomics database (HBDB) [59] general-purpose human metabolome database (HMDB) [60], microbial volatiles [61] database, and the EPA’s chemistry dashboard [62]. To map metabolic pathways, we will use the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) database [63] and WikiPathways [64].…”
