We address the unphysical energy dependence of quarkonium-hadroproduction cross sections at Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) in $$\alpha _s$$ α s which we attribute to an over-subtraction in the factorisation of the collinear singularities inside the PDFs in the $$\overline{\text {MS}}$$ MS ¯ scheme. Such over- or under-subtractions have a limited phenomenological relevance in most of the scattering processes in particle physics. On the contrary, it is particularly harmful for $$P_T$$ P T -integrated charmonium hadroproduction which renders a wide class of NLO results essentially unusable. Indeed, in such processes, $$\alpha _s$$ α s is not so small, the PDFs are not evolved much and can be rather flat for the corresponding momentum fractions and, finally, some process-dependent NLO pieces are either too small or too large. We propose a scale-fixing criterion which avoids such an over-subtraction. We demonstrate its efficiency for $$\eta _{c,b}$$ η c , b but also for a fictitious light elementary scalar boson. Having provided stable NLO predictions for $$\eta _{c,b}$$ η c , b $$P_T$$ P T -integrated cross sections, $$\sigma ^{\mathrm{NLO}}_{\eta _Q}$$ σ η Q NLO , and discussed the options to study $$\eta _{b}$$ η b hadroproduction, we argue that their measurement at the LHC can help better determine the gluon PDF at low scales and tell whether the local minimum in conventional NLO gluon PDFs around $$x=0.001$$ x = 0.001 at scales below 2 GeV is physical or not.

This paper is devoted to the leading twist exclusive bottomonia decays with double charmonium in the final state. Using models of the twist-2 charmonia distribution amplitudes the widths of these decays are calculated within light cone formalism. In addition, the processes under consideration are studied within nonrelativistic QCD. In our analysis we have found that the production of some of the $P$-wave charmonia mesons with $L_z \neq 0$ is allowed already at the leading twist approximation. This means that the selection rules which predict the suppression of such decays are violated. In this work, we investigate the rescattering effects in the radiative decay Çð5SÞ ! b þ , which were suggested to be crucially important for understanding the anomalous largeness of the branching ratios BðÇð5SÞ ! Çð1SÞ þ Þ and BðÇð5SÞ ! Çð1SÞ þ Þ. Our calculations show that the rescattering effects may enhance ÀðÇð10860Þ ! b þ Þ by four orders, but the tetraquark structure does not. Recently the BABAR and CLEO collaborations have measured the mass of b and the branching ratios BðÇð2SÞ ! b þ Þ, BðÇð3SÞ ! b þ Þ. We hope that very soon, Çð10860Þ ! b þ will be measured and it would be an ideal opportunity for testing whether the rescattering or the tetraquark structure is responsible for the anomaly of BðÇð5SÞ ! ÇðnSÞ þ À ðn ¼ 1; 2; 3ÞÞ, i.e., the future measurements on the radiative decays of Çð5SÞ might be a touchstone of the two mechanisms.
