Hybrid laparoscopic versus open pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy: retrospective matched case comparison in 80 patients

Abstract: In selected patients, a hybrid laparoscopic technique of pancreatoduodenectomy is feasible with complication rates comparable to the open procedure. There seem to be advantages in terms of transfusion requirement, operation time, and hospital stay.

“…Although there is a lack of randomized trials in the field of minimally invasive pancreatic head resections, a growing number of case series and cohort studies have been published comparing the safety and efficacy of minimally invasive and open pancreatic head resection [4]. In many centers performing laparoscopic or robotic pancreatic head resections, these procedures are in fact not minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomies (MIPD) but rather cases in which the dissection is being performed in a minimally invasive manner, while anastomoses are performed manually [59]. This could potentially create a bias in the analysis of outcomes.…”

“…Besides, there may be potential overlap patients with other included studies from the United States medical centers. Finally, a total of 26 comparative studies were included for quantitative meta-analysis [ 17 , 26 , 30 , 31 , 33 36 , 47 , 53 , 55 , 57 , 61 , 63 – 65 , 68 , 70 , 71 , 74 , 83 , 84 , 88 , 92 , 106 , 110 ]. “…Of these, we excluded 1 article 7 after look through the whole paper 7,8 because they are from the same institution. U. F. Wellne et al 9 was excluded because the data was not impactful and the authors could not provide information in detail. We also excluded another study 10 because there was no comparison in it.…”
