Hybrid organization of functional departments and manufacturing cells in the presence of imprecise data

Abstract: Although the benefits of forming cells are widely recognized, certain industrial decision makers do not wish an entire transformation because of possible changes that may occur, for example, in the demand, mix or routing of products. Therefore, hybrid organization of functional departments and manufacturing cells in the same shop may appear quite relevant. The problem addressed here is how to allocate machines and products so as to design such systems that take advantages of both types of layout. We suggest an… Show more

“…The second group focuses more specifically on the coexistence of antagonistic logics, such as a developmental logic versus a financial logic (Battilana & Dorado, ; Battilana, Singul, Pache, & Model, ) or a market‐oriented logic versus a human development‐oriented logic (Haigh, Walker, Back, & Kickul, ; Pache & Santos, ). The third group addresses hybrid management practices, emphasizing leadership (Bolden & Kirk, ; Kakar, Kakar, Kets de Vries, & Vrignaud, ) and functional practices, such as human resources (Newenham‐Kahindi, ) and strategic (Moraes & Zilber, ) and operations management practices (Feyzioglu & Pierreval, ). The fourth group specifically addresses the cultural hybridization that occurs as a result of M&A.…”
