Abstract:The kinetic hydrogen isotope effects in electrochemical reductions of CCl,COOD, CDClzCOOD, CCb, CDCl2, benzyl chloride, lchloronaphthalene and Cchlorobenzonitrile in deuterated reaction media were determined. The aliphatic chloro compounds are reduced with rather small isotope effects kH/kD = 1.2.. . 1.7, as expected if anionic intermediates are formed and protonated. Benzyl chloride is reduced with an apparent kH/kD = 2.1, which is probably too high due to radical reactions. Aromatic chloro compounds are redu… Show more
“…A similar methodology was used in the same decade for pseudohalides 42 and certain alkyl halides. 43 In more recent years, Suga demonstrated the use of a fluorenone redox mediator for the reductive deuteration of aryl halides. 44 In this case, deuterium was delivered from d 3 -MeCN, however with some methylation by-products.…”
The selective deuteration of organic molecules through electrochemistry is proving to be an effective alternative to conventional 2H labelling strategies, which traditionally require high temperatures, high pressures of deuterium gas...

Herein, electroreductive umpolung benzylic deuteration of p-QMs using cheap and easily accessible D2O as a deuterium source was realized. Various value-added benzylic deuterated diarylmethanes can be synthesized without the requirement...
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
