Hydrogeochemistry and Geothermometry of Thermal Groundwater from the Gulf of Suez Region, Egypt

Abstract: Abstract. The combined chemical composition, O and H isotopes, and the basic geologic setting of the geothermal system of the Gulf of Suez, Egypt have been investigated to evaluate the origin of the dissolved constituents and subsurface reservoir temperatures. Hydrochemical characterization of thermal waters discharged from springs and flowing artesian wells in the Gulf of Suez region show that there are two groups. One is Hammam Faroun thermal waters with salinity values exceeding 10,000 mg/l, discharge tempe… Show more

“…While the geothermal gradient in the Gulf of Suez are normal, certain areas around the gulf, for example, Ras Fanar and Hammam Faraun, registered high gradients of 44°C/km (Lashin 2013) with heat flow values [95 mW/ m 2 (Haenel 1972;Morgan et al 1976;El Fiky 2009;Zaher et al 2011Zaher et al , 2012Lashin 2007Lashin , 2013. Gravity and magnetic investigations together with numerical simulations indicate deep circulation of meteoric water as the source for the thermal springs in Hammam Faraun.…”

“…Concentration of major ions in the dug well sample is higher than tube well, except Ca. El-Fiky (2009) is used Schoeller diagram to compare major ionic composition of studied samples. Plots of average composition of present study display trends as Na [ Ca [ Mg [ K and Cl [ HCO 3 [ SO 4 for cations and anions, respectively (Fig.…”

“…Estudos hidrogeoquímicos envolvendo geotermômetros vêm sendo conduzidos em diversos aquíferos onde ocorrências de águas termais são observadas, sejam de fontes naturais ou extraídas de poços, como, por exemplo, os realizados por Mazor et al (1980), ProlLedesma (1991), D'Amore et al (1987), Pirlo (2004), El-Fiky (2009), Dulanya et al (2010) e Navarro et al (2011), dentre outros.…”
