The pa per pres ents the re sults of re search into the dis tri bu tion of mi cro or gan isms in brines with the to tal dis solved sol ids of 40-80 g/dm 3 , found in the Pa leo zoic plat form of the Pol ish Low lands. Wa ter sam ples were col lected from bore holes ex tracting wa ter from the Ju ras sic and Tri as sic aqui fers. The to tal num ber of mi cro or gan isms in the ex am ined wa ter sam ples ranged from 10 to 30 ´ 10 3 cells per 1 cm 3 , while their vi a bil ity ranged from 14 to 58%. The sam ples con tained heterotrophic, chemoautotrophic, aer o bic and an aer o bic bac te ria as well as bac te ria par tic i pat ing in the trans for ma tion of iron and sul phur com pounds. Reverse osmosis (RO) seawater desalination is currently a widespread means of closing the gap between supply and demand for potable water in arid regions. Currently, one of the main setbacks of RO operation is fouling, which hinders membrane performance and induces pressure loss, thereby reducing system efficiency. An alternative water source is saline groundwater with salinity close to seawater, pumped from beach wells in coastal aquifers which penetrate beneath the freshwater-seawater interface. In this research, we studied the potential use of saline groundwater of the coastal aquifer as feedwater for desalination in comparison to seawater using fieldwork and laboratory approaches. The chemistry, microbiology and physical properties of saline groundwater were characterized and compared with seawater. Additionally, reverse osmosis desalination experiments in a cross-flow system were performed, evaluating the permeate flux, salt rejection and fouling propensities of the different water types. Our results indicated that saline groundwater was significantly favored over seawater as a feed source in terms of chemical composition, microorganism content, silt density, and fouling potential, and exhibited better desalination performance with less flux decline. Saline groundwater may be a better water source for desalination by RO due to lower fouling potential, and reduced pretreatment costs.

Se tiene por objetivo realizar una interpretación biblico-teológica del milagro del mar, para lo cual se aborda Éxodo 14 desde una perspectiva histórico-crítica, y se hace una lectura teológica que propende por una comprensión del milagro del mar más allá de un intervencionismo mágico por parte de Dios. Para llevar a cabo esta investigación, se utiliza una metodología de tipo cualitativo-documental, pues se hace una revisión bibliográfica para justificar hermenéuticamente el acercamiento biblico-teológico a la perícopa en cuestión. Los principales hallazgos llevan a concluir que Éxodo 14 tiene varias capas redaccionales, lo cual esclarece las aparentes contradicciones; asimismo, se colige que el milagro no es un intervencionismo divino que rompe las leyes de la naturaleza, sino que es el descubrimiento, por la fuerza afirmativa de la fe, de la acción de Dios en el mundo.
