Hydrological sensitivity of the Adour‐Garonne river basin to climate change

Abstract: [1] Output atmospheric fields from seven global climate models (GCMs) were extracted over a domain covering the Adour-Garonne basin in southwestern France in order to calculate precipitation and temperature anomalies for the decade 2050-2060 relative to the present climate. These anomalies showed a general trend of increasing precipitation in wintertime and decreasing precipitation in summertime, together with an increase in the annual average temperature of approximately 2°C. The anomalies were used to create… Show more

“…The anomalies method (AN) (which is also known as deltachange, alteration or perturbation method) (Caballero et al, 2007;Prudhomme et al, 2002) is the simplest one. It involves obtaining, from the climate simulation, a factor of climate change (the anomaly) and applying it to an observed series of data.…”

“…Sustainable management of water resources and dependent ecosystems requires an understanding of climate change impacts on river flows (Caballero, et al 2007) and groundwater levels (hydrology and hydrogeology), and on the aquatic environment (hydro-ecology). Last but not least, a crossfertilization of engineering, economics and other sciences is needed to define complex adaptation strategies that involve new combinations of water demand management measures (e.g.…”
