Hydroxy-Safflower Yellow A Alleviates Osteoporosis in Ovariectomized Rat Model by Inhibiting Carbonic Anhydrase 2 Activity

Abstract: Background: To investigate the therapeutic effect of Hydroxy-safflower yellow A (HSYA) on rat’s osteoporosis and explore its potential mechanism of action. Methods: Bilateral ovariectomized female rats (OVX) were used to establish a postmenopausal rat model of osteoporosis. HSYA was given as an intervention, and estradiol was used as a positive control. The levels of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), calcium ion (Ca2+), and inorganic phosphorus (IP) were used to detect bone loss. Three months after modeling, th… Show more

“…A total of 22 potential active constituents were identified from CF with OB > 30% and DL ≥ 0.18, and all of the information of the 22 identified constituents is summarized in Table 2 . We added 5 other active ingredients of CF in addition to the 22 compounds mentioned above through a literature search, including safflomin A, safflomin C, safflower-yellow-A, safflower-yellow-B, and hydroxysafflor yellow A [ [21] , [22] , [23] ]. Consequently, a total of 27 compounds in CF were obtained through a TCMSP database search and literature search.…”

“…Modern pharmacology and molecular biology studies have verified that HSYA can exert anti-inflammatory, antioxidant ( He et al, 2021 ), and antiischemia reperfusion injury ( Bai et al, 2020 ) effects and is widely used in the treatment of acute or chronic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases ( Xu et al, 2021 ; Geng et al, 2018 ). It has been shown to play a role in ameliorating cognitive impairment ( Zhang et al, 2021a ), rheumatic diseases ( Tsiogkas et al, 2021 ), and osteoporosis ( Wang et al, 2021b ) and regulating glucose and lipid metabolism ( Sun et al, 2021 ), providing new perspectives for exploring the development and application of HSYA in the health care industry ( Sun et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Safflower injection is processed from safflower, a plant of the composite family, through water extraction, alcohol precipitation, concentration, water precipitation, sterilization, etc. [ 13 ]. Modern pharmacology has proved that it has pharmacological effects such as activating blood circulation and removing stasis, antioxidation, anti-inflammatory, and lowering blood pressure and blood lipids [ 14 ].…”
