Hyperbranched Silicone MDTQ Tack Promoters

Abstract: Low molecular weight, highly crosslinked silicone resins are widely used as reinforcing agents for highly transparent elastomers and adhesion/tack promoters in gels. The resins are complex mixtures and their structure / property relationships are ill defined. We report the synthesis of a library of 2, 3 and 4-fold hyperbranched polymeric oils that are comprised of linear, lightly branched or highly branched dendronic structures. Rheological examination of the fluids and tack measurements of gels filled with 10… Show more

“…This property has been useful for the formulation of sun protection products. The use of PSA in anti-aging products is due to its ability to temporarily keep the skin moisturized and fill in fine lines, giving the skin a plumper appearance, and decreasing inflammatory phenomena [78][79][80].…”

“…Silicones are very sensitive to acids/bases, which makes routes to precise silicones, such as dendrons, normally difficult. However, the Piers-Rubinsztajn (PR) reaction [ 28 ] is particularly conducive to the preparation of highly branched silicones with spatial control [ 29 ], including dendrimers [ 30 , 31 ] ( Figure 1 c).…”

“…We previously reported the use of this process combined with hydrosilylation reactions to synthesize precise silicone dendrimers with molar mass of up to 13,500 g mol −1 using iterative reactions of PR and platinum-catalyzed hydrosilylation in the absence of degradation ( Figure 2 A,C) [ 23 ]. Well-defined silicone resins with tunable branching degrees could also be prepared using this pair of reactions [ 24 ].…”
