Hypertension and IgA nephropathy: Role of clinical and familial factors in progression to renal failure

Abstract: Background: Genetic factors related to hypertension may affect the course of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and partially explain its clinical variability. Aim of the study was to evaluate the role of hypertension and positive family history for hypertension on progression in a large number of IgAN patients with normal renal function or mild chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) at the time of renal biopsy.
