Codinaea leomaiae sp. nov. from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

Abstract: Codinaea leomaiae was collected on the decaying leaf of an unidentified plant and is described and illustrated as a new species. It is distinguished by polyphialidic conidiogenous cells that produce broadly fusiform or eye-shaped, unicellular, hyaline conidia with a single, curved setula at each end. A comparative table and conidial illustrations of some rather similar non-setose Dictyochaeta species are also provided.

“…morphotype (C1). The C2 morphotype also occurs in C. aquatica [124], C. leomaiae [125], C. tropicalis [126], D. fimbriaspora [44], D. multifimbriata [34], D. multisetula, and D. renispora [44], which often have ellipsoidal to reniform or drop-shaped conidia with two or more setulae. Morphotype C4 with discrete phialides borne on nodose hyphae was also recorded in D. pahangensis [21] and Dictyochaetopsis polysetosa [127].…”

“…Castañeda is a recently described species and very characteristic in producing broadly fusiform or eye-shaped and guttulate conidia with one setulae at each end. It differs from other similar species by size of conidiophores, conidia, and setulae (Barbosa et al 2016).…”
