CreateTarget and Analyze This!: new software assisting imaging mass spectrometry on Bruker Reflex IV and Ultraflex II instruments

Abstract: Two new software programs are presented which enable matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation imaging mass spectrometry (MALDI-IMS) on Bruker Reflex and Ultraflex instruments. The first program, CreateTarget, creates a high density raster with the dimensions of the tissue section, and converts these parameters into a virtual target plate file that can be imported in the normal mass spectrometer control software. Following automated spectrum acquisition, the second program, Analyze This!, converts the array … Show more

“…The acquisition area was defined with the CreateTarget computer software [24], which generates files in a format compatible with the Bruker Reflex IV spectrometer. Thirty shots at each location were accumulated to construct each individual spectrum, with a total acquisition time of 2-9 h, depending on the size of the scanned area.…”

“…The software (along with documentation and lots of other useful information on ms imaging) is available from the "msimaging" website hosted by Markus Stoeckli (http: www.maldi-msi.org). The instrument control software "MMSIT" for Voyager series instruments, is required, "4000 Series Imaging" for the 4700/4800 instruments and "Create Target" for Bruker instruments [5]. For image processing "Biomap" is a freeware package developed by Novartis for the processing of ms imaging data and is freely available via the "msimaging" website (http//:www.maldi-msi.org).…”
