(E)-N′-[1-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene]-3-methoxybenzohydrazide

Abstract: In the title compound, C16H16N2O3, the benzohydrazide group is not planar and the molecule exists in a trans configuration with respect to the methylidene unit. The dihedral angle between the two substituted benzene rings is 26.9 (2)°. In the crystal structure, the molecular packing is stabilized by intramolecular O—H⋯N and intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The intermolecular hydrogen bonding forms chains parallel to the b axis.

“…In the crystal structure of compound (II) (Subbulakshmi et al, 2015), a combination of N-HÁ Á ÁO and C-HÁ Á Á(arene) hydrogen bonds links the molecules into sheets; in the struc-research communications ture of (E)-N 0 -[1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene]-3-methoxybenzohydrazide the molecules are linked by a single N-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bond to form simple C(4) chains (Li & Ban, 2009); and the molecules of (E)-N 0 -(4-hydroxybenzylidene)-3nitrobenzohydrazide are linked into sheets by a combination of N-HÁ Á ÁO, O-HÁ Á ÁÁ(N,O) and C-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds (Meng et al, 2012).…”
