Ficus septicaplant extracts for treating Dengue virusin vitro

Abstract: Dengue virus types 1-4 (DENV-1-4) are positive-strand RNA viruses with an envelope that belongs to the Flaviviridae. DENV infection threatens human health worldwide. However, other than supportive treatments, no specific therapy is available for the infection. In order to discover novel medicine against DENV, we tested 59 crude extracts, without cytotoxicity, from 23 plants in vitro; immunofluorescence assay revealed that the methanol extracts of fruit, heartwood, leaves and stem from Ficus septica Burm. f. ha… Show more

“…The contamination from soil bacterium should be eliminated as much as possible. The different parts of the plants were then extracted using different solvents, as described previously [38]. Briefly, various plants were ground, extracted with 5 mL of the indicated solvents, such as methanol, chloroform, and acetone, for 1 week.…”

“…The chloroform fraction had an anti-HCV activity with IC 50 5.67 ± 1.54 µg/ml, while butanol fraction gave lower activity (IC 50 74.10 ± 18.24 µg/ml) (Ha id et al, 2016). Methanol leaves extract of F. septica had antiviral activity against Dengue virus (DENV-1 and DENV-2) with IC 50 13.3±2.6 µg/ml and 10.6±1.1 µg/ml (Huang et al, 2017).…”
