Fomitopsis meliae CFA 2, a novel brown rot for endoglucanase: emphasis towards enhanced endoglucanase production by statistical approach

Abstract: Brown rot basidiomycetes are a principal group of wood-decaying fungi which degrade wood cellulose and hemicellulose by the combination of carbohydrate active enzymes and nonenzymatic oxidation reactions. Very scant information is available on carbohydrate active enzymes of brown rot fungi. In this context, present study focused on the production of cellulolytichemicellulolytic enzymes from newly isolated brown rot Fomitopsis meliae CFA 2. Under solidstate fermentation using wheat bran as the substrate Fomitop… Show more

“…The morphological analysis of the white fungus demonstrates similarity with Fomitopsis . The genus is characterised by sessile to effused basidiomas, a perennial growth habit, white to tan or pink pore surface with small, regular pores, generative hyphae attached in a di- or trimitiquiphal system and thin hyaline walls and smooth basidiospores ( Patel et al 2021 ).…”

“…Full metagenomic data for 245 samples were obtained, each with 50,000-100,000 clean sequence reads, which were further assigned to various genotypes in the form of final ASVs (amplicon sequence variables). Using 90.0, 95.0, 96.0, 97.0, 98.0 and 99.0% sequence similarity thresholds, clustering revealed 13,953,18,146,19,399,21,154,22,067 and 23,356 main OTUs (operational taxonomic units), respectively. Furthermore, 98% was used as the cut-off threshold for the final clustering to be consistent with a previous study [7] on global soil funga diversity.…”

“…Fomes meliae is a wood decay species of basidiomycetes fungus which causes brown rot mostly in softwood and in some species of hardwood. The same species has been explored for the high level of expression of endoglucanase production [21]. Fomes meliae is reported to be a plant pathogen that causes wood rot in nectarines, peaches [22] and Platanus sp.…”
