Hemicycliophora ahvasiensis n. sp. (Nematoda: Hemicycliophoridae), and data on a known species, from Iran

Abstract: Hemicycliophora ahvasiensis n. sp., recovered from the rhizospheric soil of date palm in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran, is described and illustrated based upon morphological, morphometric and molecular data. The new species is characterized by its sheath, closely fitting most of the body, cuticle with or without numerous irregular lines, sometimes appearing as blocks in distal body region. Lateral field without discrete longitudinal lines, but often with continuous broken striae or anastomoses.… Show more

“…Hemicycliophora conida (Thorne, 1955) was originally described from soil samples collected from a sugar-beet fi eld near the village of Ballyculane in Ireland. This species was also reported in the Netherlands (Thorne, 1955, Loof, 1968, Belgium, England, Germany, Switzerland, Italy (Loof, 1968), Poland (Loof, 1968, Brzeski, 1998, Iran (Loof, 1984, Azimi et al, 2020, Spain (Castillo et al, 1989), the United States (Zeng et al, 2012), and Iceland (Flis et al, 2020. Recently, H. conida was found near the roots of wild red raspberries (Rubus idaeus L.) in Serebryany Bor Forest Park in Moscow, Russia.…”

“…Among Hemicycliophora spp., H. poranga (Monteiro & Lordello, 1978) was known as an important pest to agricultural crops and can cause signifi cant damages to many crops such as celery in Argentina (Emilse et al, 2011); Musa sp., cabbage, cowpea, bean, okra, lettuce, and tomato in the USA (Chitambar, 1993); and other 21 crops from different localities listed by Chitambar and Subbotin (2014). Currently, 135 valid species of the genus Hemicycliophora have been described over the world (Azimi et al, 2020;Chitambar & Subbotin, 2014;Nguyen et al, 2021). In Vietnam, Hemicyclio-phora spp.…”
