The study of Agaricomycetes in the Brazilian Pampa Biome is still incipient, but it is very necessary for the valorization and preservation activities in this area. In terms of fungal diversity, it is the least studied Brazilian biome, with only 84 species already described for the site, despite the great diversity of fauna and flora that this biome presents. The objective of this work is to know more about the mycodiversity of this biome, contributing to a better understanding of the distribution and ecology of the Agaricales. The collections were made following the usual methodology for Agaricales (Basidiomycota). Thus, specimens were collected for studies to identification to species level by macro- and microscopic characters. Descriptions of seven species collected in the rural region surrounding the city of São Gabriel, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil are presented, which are cited for the first time for the Pampa Biome, namely: Macrolepiota mastoidea, Protostropharia alcis ssp. austrobrasiliensis, Trogia buccinalis, Crepidotus euterpicola, Entoloma depluens, Lepiota subincarnata and Neopaxillus echinospermus. These new citations reinforce the importance of studies on the biodiversity of the Pampa biome for its preservation.

Edible mushrooms have long been utilized in the food and pharmaceutical sectors due to their nutritional and therapeutic characteristics. Mushrooms have been recognized as a folk remedy due to their vast range of nutraceutical compounds, as well as medicinal and preventive properties. They are considered as a functional food, as well as assisting in the prevention of fatal infections. This chapter highlights the phytochemistry, nutritional aspects, and pharmacological potential of Macrolepiota procera (M. procera). M. procera is a rich source of high value-added bioactive components, minerals, (particularly K, Mg, and Se) and dietary fiber. This saprobic mushroom has the ability to digest cellulose and lignin and is an accumulator of toxic elements. M. procera has been identified to exhibit potential therapeutic and pharmacological anticancer, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. M. procera is used as a functional food as it might hold huge protective efficacy potential for the cure of fatal infections. The cultivation of this valuable mushroom is required not only to preserve the species in the wild but also to ensure its maximum growth for food security. Moreover, it can be studied in phytochemical and pharmacological research to identify its value-added bioactive constituents.

Note of Five Unrecorded Mushrooms Including Three Rare Species on Mount Juwang in Korea

The Mount Juwang was designated as a national park in 1976 because of its unique bedrock geology. Although Juwang National Park has maintained its natural ecosystem well, few macrofungal surveys have been carried out. As a part of a project supported by the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR) for the discovery of indigenous fungal species, we surveyed the mushrooms in Juwang National Park from 2018 to 2019. The macrofungi were identified based on morphological and molecular analyses. Among these fungi, five specimens were identified as species previously unrecorded in Korea: Calocybe decolorata , Crepidotus brunnescens , Mycena pearsoniana , Psathyrella phegophila , and P. sulcatotuberculosa . Three of these species are known to be rare in the world: Crepidotus brunnescens , P. phegophila , and P. sulcatotuberculosa . In this study, we provide detailed morphological descriptions of the five unrecorded species from Mt. Juwang in Korea.
