“…However, some characters induced many researchers to consider P. crystallina and P. hirtiflora two different species (Degtjareva et al 2004;Degtjareva et al 2006;Peruzzi 2006;Peruzzi 2007;De Castro et al data unpublished), even if Casper et al (2007) prefer to use the expression P. crystallina-hirtiflora aggregate. The two species, P. hirtiflora and P. crystallina, belong to the section Cariophyllum within the subgenus Isoloba, along with the endemics P. habilii Yildirim Şenol & Pirhan present in Turkey (Yıldırım et al, 2012) and the newly discovered P. lavalvae Innangi & Izzo growing in southern Italy (Innangi & Izzo 2014). Pinguicola hirtiflora presents an interesting distribution: most of its populations occur in Albania, Greece and Turkey, while a few are located in southern Italy, especially in the regions Campania and Calabria (Innangi et al 2011).…”

“…We used generalized procrustes analysis (GPA) as a superimposition method, considering the objects as symmetric [82]. GPA is an established procedure for analysis of 2D and 3D shapes, which has been widely applied to plants in the last years [83][84][85][86][87][88]. Although objects such as leaves can be analyzed also by means of elliptical Fourier analysis [89], we decided that a landmark approach was more suited to detect possible subtle changes with potential diagnostic value, such as those considering the morphology of leaf apex.…”
