“…The genus has been circumscribed by a combination of richly branched aerial shoot system, antitropic orientation of the leaf blade, a usually diffuse or rarely congested inflorescence, deciduous and often colored bracts, absence of interphylls, absence of (or rudimentary) bracteoles, dolichoblastic flower pairs and short corolla tube (less than half the length of the corolla lobes) (Andersson 1981, 1998, Yoshida‐Arns et al 2002).
