“…4 Academic studies examining migration partnerships have mainly focused on the public-private character of such partnerships (e.g. Bisong, 2015;Kunz et al, 2011), with some research highlighting the role of IOs, such as the IOM, in developing migration partnerships with states (Geiger, 2018;Kunz, 2013;Potaux, 2011). Scholars have also probed into the IOM's partnership with local communities (Korneev, 2018), and the IOM's relationship with other IOs, for example UNHCR (Elie, 2010;Koch, 2014).…”

“…Although global migration governance, and the role of international organisations (hereafter "IOs") within it, has become subject to flourishing academic studies, the relationship between the ILO and IOM has not been investigated in much detail. In our view, the analysis of their interaction cannot be grasped by a classic comparative analysis (as done by Fanning & Piper, 2021;Geiger, 2018;Geiger & Pécoud, 2020;Grugel & Piper, 2007;Kneebone, 2010;Pécoud, 2018) but calls for an alternative approach: a relational perspective. The focus on the relational dynamics between these two IOs allows us to go beyond an analysis of their roles as parallel functioning entities, as this is no longer sufficient since the IOM's formal assimilation into the UN in 2016.…”

“…La función que la oim cumple con los países de origen, tránsito y destino, ha sido revisada por distintos autores (Geiger, 2018; Barber y Bryan, 2018; Fine, burla: «La oit es una organización bien intencionada donde trabajan algunas personas cuestionables; la oim es una organización cuestionable donde trabajan ciertas personas bien intencionadas» (intercambio informal durante el gmdac en Daca, Bangladés, 10 de diciembre de 2016).…”

“…In this issue, Geiger (2018) provides the first thorough analysis of the relationship between IOM and one of its member-states, namely Canada. While a key donor, Canada has expressed concerns that IOM acts in an autonomous manner, without listening to its member-states' viewpoints; the expansion of IOM's range of activities, for instance, is not entirely approved by the Canadian government.…”
