Identification of disruptive exponential technologies of Industry 4.0

Abstract: As the present is connected to the development and implementation of technologies that fall under Industry 4.0, it is necessary to get acquainted with the main areas of interest. The paper identifies individual disruptive exponential technologies with their examples of use in specific areas and the issue of inconsistency in definition of artificial intelligence (AI) is discussed in more detail. In conclusion, there is definition of AI created by authors.

“…Artificial intelligence is the ability of a device to exhibit human-like abilities such as learning, reasoning, planning, and creativity. AI enables technical systems to distinguish the environment in which they are operating and solve the problems they recognize [18]. A computer receives data prepared or collected by its sensors (e.g., cameras), processes it and responds to it to achieve a specific goal.…”

“…A computer receives data prepared or collected by its sensors (e.g., cameras), processes it and responds to it to achieve a specific goal. Based on the collection of relevant data, AI systems can operate autonomously and adapt their behaviour to some extent on the basis of the analysis of previous actions [18,19]. The goal of AI is not to replace humans, but only to increase their capabilities and usefulness in any environment.…”

“…Particularly, there was a significant boom in 2020 and 2021, when the situation in the mail market has been strongly influenced by measures to ensure the reduction of the spread of COVID-19. [1] Last Mile is an area that focuses on mail delivery as part of the provision of postal services. Currently, postal items can according to the contractually agreed terms be delivered in several ways.…”

“…In numerous cases, in those innovations are used technologies from the industry 4.0, such as exponential technologies, technologies from IoT using sensors, machine learning or even artificial intelligence. [1], [2] In various cases, however, the choice of an appropriate delivery method is made to reduces the burden on the environment, due to efforts to reduce emissions [3]. As parcel quantities rise, more delivery vans enter city centres, worsening traffic, pollution, and the health of the populace [4].…”
