Identification of Drought in Western Slovakia by Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI)

Abstract: The paper deals with identification of drought in western Slovakia, which is based on soil-climatological data. For this purpose, three sites were chosen: Bratislava, Piešťany and Hurbanovo, situated on the Danubian Lowland. The Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) was calculated on monthly basis for time series 1981–2010, 2021–2050 and 2071–2100. There were determined the driest periods by percentage of dry months for each site. The driest period in Bratislava and Hurbanovo was in the first evaluated time ser… Show more

“…Hydrological drought was discussed by Zeleňáková et al [28], precipitation and temperature trends were discussed by Melo et al [29] and Zeleňáková et al [30], and meteorological drought was assessed by Labudová et al [31]. Palmer Drought Severity Index has been applied by Zuzulová anď Siška [32] in order to identify drought in Western Slovakia. Meteorological drought occurrence in Tatra National Park was analyzed by Vido et al [33], and drought in altitudinal vegetation zones of Slovakia was analyzed byŠkvarenina et al [34].…”

“…Meteorological and agricultural droughts have been considered by many authors (Karamuz et al, 2021;Łabędzki, 2015;Rimkus et al, 2020), but they defined drought mostly by drought indices. Also, authors in Slovakia analyse precipitation, meteorological and hydrological drought mainly on the basis of indices Jurík, Kaletová, 2018;Fendeková et al, 2018;Zuzulová, Šiška, 2017;Nagy et al, 2020).…”
