“…The biosynthetic genes were strongly expressed during inflorescence development demonstrating the crucial importance of this step in the production of secondary metabolites. Consistently with previous transcriptomic studies in Lilium and in Narcissus for phenylpropanoids and flavonoids [64,65] and in Tanacetum cinerariifolium for sesquiterpene lactones [66], this approach allowed to functionally annotate these genes in C. cardunculus and provides valuable information for further investigations on their role as structural genes in the related pathways. Moreover, the use of RNA hybrid-seq enabled us to identify many alternatively spliced isoforms differentially expressed across the inflorescence development stages showing the complex transcriptional regulation system governing this process.…”

“…Previous evidence has shown that perianths and coronas of Chinese narcissus have a higher level of flavonols, PAs are accumulated in basal plates, and no anthocyanidins are detected in all organs [21]. Expression analysis indicated that NtMYB3 has a higher expression level in basal plates than petals and corona, which contrasts with NtMYB2 , which has higher expression levels in petals and corona [19].…”

“…Expression analysis indicated that NtMYB3 has a higher expression level in basal plates than petals and corona, which contrasts with NtMYB2 , which has higher expression levels in petals and corona [19]. Previous studies have suggested that decreased expression of NtFLS and a lack of ANS expression lead to PAs accumulation in basal plates of Chinese narcissus [21]. Therefore, it is suggested that NtMYB3 may play a repressive role in basal plates of Chinese narcissus by down-regulating NtFLS expression.…”

“…It is one of the top ten traditional flowers in China and has great application value in ornamental as well as refining essential oil (Jian et al 2006). The research on its flowering mechanism is also a hotspot topic in recent years (Wang et al 2018). Narcissus tazetta var.…”
