Identification of genes showing differential expression profile associated with growth rate in skeletal muscle tissue of Landrace weanling pig

Abstract: Suppression subtractive hybridization was used to identify genes showing differential expression profile associated with growth rate in skeletal muscle tissue of Landrace weanling pig. Two subtracted cDNA populations were generated from musculus longissimus muscle tissues of selected pigs with extreme expected breeding values at the age of 100 kg. Three upregulated genes (EEF1A2, TSG101 and TTN) and six downregulated genes (ATP5B, ATP5C1, COQ3, HADHA, MYH1 and MYH7) in pig with genetic propensity for higher gr… Show more

“…This finding is in contrast to the results of our and Kim et al (2015) studies and may be associated with the different age of pig used in the experiments. In our study, as well as in the experiment of Kim et al (2015) pigs were at the slaughter age, however in the study of Komatsu et al (2016) animals aged 23 days. Moreover growth rate groups were selected based on the expected breeding value not direct phenotypic data.…”

“…In the previous study of Komatsu et al (2016) it was shown that expression of MYH7 gene in pigs is correlated with growth rate. In our study MYH7 SNP (g.7:75667956G>A) that is associated with the expression levels of mature miR-208b as well as MYH7 gene were investigated.…”

“…In skeletal muscle, mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation and ketolysis represent aerobic energy sources [79,80]. Zheng et al [81] detected the expression of OXCT1 and found it is associated with chicken skeletal muscle hypertrophy, while Komatsu et al [82] demonstrated that HADHA expression in skeletal muscle is associated with the growth rate of pigs. In our research, oar-miR-1185-5p was found to be significantly downregulated in all three comparison groups and to have interacted with the abovementioned three mRNAs.…”
