Identification of HMG-box family establishes the significance of SOX6 in the malignant progression of glioblastoma

Abstract: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most malignant neuroepithelial primary brain tumor and its mean survival time is 15 months after diagnosis. This study undertook to investigate the genome-wide and transcriptome-wide analyses of human high mobility group box (HMG-box) TF (transcript factor) families / HOX, TOX, FOX, HMG and SOX gene families, and their relationships to GBM. According to the TCGA-GBM profile analysis, differentially expressed HOX, FOX, HMG and SOX gene families (62 DEmRNA) were found in this… Show more

“…The miRNAs found altered in GBM have been widely reported, hsa‐miR‐21 was overexpressed in the development and progression of GBM 52 . Our previous study has established ceRNA network and identified miRNA, lncRNA and TF were glioma‐related molecules in GBM 6 . In current study, hsa‐miR‐21‐5p was involved in the regulation of CDK4 and MYC, which known to be detected in the GBM development.…”

“…The blood biomarkers (LRG1 (Leucine Rich Alpha‐2‐Glycoprotein 1), CRP (C‐Reactive Protein) and C9 (Complement C9)) revealed significant positive correlations with tumour size 14 . Our previous study also reported that HMG‐box family and related ceRNA (competing endogenous RNA) established the significance of SOX6 (SRY‐Box Transcription Factor 6) in the malignant progression of glioblastoma 6 …”

“…The discovery of potential biomarkers is important to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and targeted therapy of GBM. Recently, we detected the HMG-box family establishing the significance of SOX6 in the malignant progression of GBM (Jiang et al, 2020a), and found three core genes associated with survival in GBM (Jiang et al, 2020b). Besides, another study revealed that expression of 77 known genes can serve as biomarker in pan-cancer (Ji and Cui, 2020).…”

“…These contradictory data probably arose as a consequence of GBM heterogeneity. Furthermore, it was shown that low SOX6 expression in patients with GBM contributes to a better survival rate than that in patients who display high SOX6 expression[ 116 ]. Functional analyses have shown that SOX7 acts as a tumor suppressor.…”
