As it has developed, two distinct personas have emerged: the individual person, seeking to capture and archive their own or someone else’s personal digital materials; and the institution—including museums, libraries, and archives—attempting to acquire and manage personal digital materials. In doing so, institutions also advocate for the preservation and management of personal digital archives and digital file management practices held in private hands… Show more

“…For example, the literature identified that information is personal in several senses such as information about a person, directed towards a or from a person, or information recording or representing one's activities and experiences (Jones et al, 2016(Jones et al, , 2017. Practices determine the longevity of items (Lush, 2014), but many factors influence PIM practices such as mood (Whittaker and Massey, 2020), motivation (Condron, 2017(Condron, , 2019, characteristics of digital possession (Cushing, 2013) or memory (Halilovich, 2014;Petrelli and Whittaker, 2010). Those factors influence the complexity of managing and preserving personal information that can be of value for the family and family archive (Woodham et al, 2017).…”

“…However, Sinn et al (2017) find that backups and duplications are the main PA strategies to reduce the risk and heighten the safety of public's digital content, and general technology efficacy and the awareness of the importance of personal records appeared to influence PA practices. Besides, Condron (2019) identified the similarities and differences in motivation and approach between individual and institutional practices and perspectives in PDA, and Han (2019) believe that it is necessary to strengthen PDA support in community-based mobile digitisation projects. Bass (2013) thinks that archivists should cultivate new and more effective means of archiving personal digital records by utilising new and better hardware and software applications.…”

“…However, two recent terms were used widely in literature. These terms included as PDA (Becker and Nogues, 2012; Condron, 2019; Cushing, 2010; Marshall, 2008; Redwine, 2015; Sinn et al, 2017; Xiangjun, 2018; Zhao et al, 2019) or Personal Digital Information Archiving (Krtalić et al, 2016; Marčetić, 2015), and long-term retrieval (Whittaker et al, 2010).…”
