Identifying Influential Factors of Knowledge Sharing in Emergency Events: A Virtual Community Perspective

Abstract: Knowledge sharing on emergency events in virtual communities is a significant information source for emergency management. Based on social cognitive theory and social capital theory as well as the consideration of the characteristics of emergency events, we employ a survey questionnaire for the empirical study and adopt the two-stage confirmatory factor analysis method to construct a structural equation model for identifying the influential factors in knowledge sharing in emergencies. Through conducting a deta… Show more

“…We link knowledge management to learning behavior from failures based on the notion of continuous learning process, advocated by experiential learning theory. This process promotes important aspects of learning, including acquiring new knowledge, changing existing ideas and perspectives, relearning, integrating acquired knowledge and applying knowledge (Kolb, ; Shan et al ., ; Fang et al ., ). The emphasis on a continuous and dynamic cycle of learning is crucial to identify errors and mistakes in the NPD process and, subsequently, learn from such failures.…”

“…Since the anthropologist Barnes firstly came up with the concept of “social network” to analyze the social structure of a fishing village in Norway, social network analysis is considered to be one of clear and convincing perspectives that are used in the study of social structure, and the perspective of social relationship has better explanation than the perspective of individual attribute. However, the virtual community connected by social networks on the Internet is a different social entity from real society in people's communication actions and information spread paths [ 5 ], and this may lead to a complex diffusion pattern of public opinions in emergency events [ 2 , 6 ].…”

“…E‐business has rapidly extended its scale and scope during the last two decades; it becomes one of the most challenging areas for industry and research communities (He and Xu, ; Viriyasitavat et al ., ; Xu et al ., ; Shan et al ., ; Xia et al ., ). In addition to e‐business, e‐government is the transformation of public sector internal and external processes through net‐enabled operations, information technology and communications, to optimize government service delivery (Chen et al ., ; Shan et al ., ). It aims at providing electronic information and serving citizens and society.…”
