The purpose of this article was to identify current development directions and potential research gaps in project management. Design/methodology/approach: The method of systematic review of articles published in the Elsevier-Science Direct database in the years 2000-2019 was used, where the search phrase was "project management" and the type of articles was "research articles". In order to answer the research questions posed, an additional method of analysis and criticism of the literature was used. Findings: The following conclusions were drawn from the analysis of the articles: a) almost a third of them concerned the practical application of PM issues in one clearly defined sector of the economy, with the most common reference being to the building sector and IS/IT, b) most articles were created in English-speaking countries (47%), c) the largest number of articles concerned the area of human resource (HR) management, including many subjects of qualifications and leadership, d) of the ten areas of knowledge specified in PMBoK, "HR" and "scheduling/time" were the most popular, followed by risk-related issues. Practical implications: The findings of this article would contribute to building a strong and coherent theory and identify best practices in project management. Originality/value: The most important achievement is the recognition of two areas of knowledge-lean management and game theory-where little research has been done so far, and whose solutions and methods could be successfully implemented inside PM.

The business environment is rapidly changing. Automation and information systems are eliminating stakeholders out of the supply chain at a dizzying speed. Facility managers (FM) must change to prevent extinction. The path to extinction is clear; outsourcing, followed by loss of benefits, followed by commoditization and abusive work hours and demands. Often a major method of survival is cutting costs which results in poor performance. FM accountability and performance decrease under these conditions. FMs must identify and utilize cutting-edge information system practices that simplify and minimize FMs’ workload and cost, while increasing value and impact. Technology developed at Arizona State University (ASU) over the last 25 years, and now in testing by government and private organizations, allows FMs to become information workers, expand their influence and responsibilities, and cut their costs by 90%. This new FM approach increases capability to lead and deliver all building systems with minimal experience.

Implementation of the new law of Ukraine "On education" also provides for the creation of conditions for lifelong learning.Formation of openness of continuing education directs educational institutions to adapt to the requirements of practice by creating a learning environment and increasing skills of working professionals and guest students [4]. Thus, the role of individual learning increases [5]. The students and groups of students with different levels of education and training have different levels of motivation and attitude to education, varied experience. To resolve this contradiction, new departments, centers, programs and special training should be created for high-quality educational services with training. The openness of educational institutions and educational systems is realized through the educational and scientific programs and training different in content and focus.Development of theoretical foundations of a new paradigm of "lifelong learning" -education throughout the life is an important area of research because the constant training ensures the effective work of the staff of organizations and enterprises.
