In the last couple of years software functionality of modern cars increased dramatically. This growing functionality leads directly to a higher complexity of development and configuration. Current studies show that the amount of software will continue to grow. Additionally, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous functionality, such as highly and fully automated driving or parking, will be introduced. Many of these new functions require access to different communication domains within the car, which increases system complexity. AUTOSAR, the software architecture established as a standard in the automotive domain, provides no methodologies to reduce this kind of complexity and to master new challenges. One solution for these evolving systems is developed in the RACE project. Here, a centralized platform computer (CPC) is introduced, which is inspired by the well-established approach used in other domains like avionics and automation. The CPC establishes a generic safety-critical execution environment for applications, providing interfaces for test and verification as well as a reliable communication infrastructure to smart sensors and actuators. A centralized platform also significantly reduces the complexity of integration and verification of new applications, and enables the support for Plug&Play.

This paper presents a renovative priority queuing algorithm for jitter-sensitve MPEG-2 Transport Stream distribution on home network. Upon the dissemination of broadband access networks, there are many technical studies of IP-based video distribution (IPTV). In addition, it is becoming common for individual residences to use Ethernet home networks to interconnect PCs and home appliances. Under these circumstances, the home network will be a common traffic channel for them within residences. On the home network, it is difficult to comply with MPEG-2 Systems requirements in which the distribution delay jitter of Program Clock Reference in its stream should be suppressed to less than ±500ns to synchronize system clocks between a transmitter and receivers. In this paper, we propose a Constant Delay Queuing (CDQ) scheduler to suppress the forwarding delay jitter, which is suitable for consumer Ethernet hubs to distribute the IPTV flow on home networks. By using an experimental hub which implements the CDQ scheduler, we demonstrate that the CDQ scheduler suppresses the jitter to less than ±500ns. We introduce OptiMOS, a method for selecting deadlines for the scheduling of downlink voice flows in a centralized-scheduling point-to-multipoint network. These include cellular networks such as LTE, UMTS HSDPA, or WiMAX, and WLANs with centralized control. OptiMOS selects the deadline of each packet so as to maximize the expected Mean Opinion Score (MOS) for the talkspurt it belongs to. It requires that absolute time is both included in RTP timestamps at the source and checked for scheduling decisions, in a cross-layer approach. OptiMOS can be employed in conjunction with any deadline-based scheduling algorithm, and does not require a specific playout buffering scheme at the receiver. Simulations of an LTE system show a performance improvement in terms of MOS for the VoIP flows, good tolerance to relatively large synchronization errors and qualitatively similar results with different playout buffers
