IgE and IgG4 Repertoire in Asymptomatic HDM-Sensitized and HDM-Induced Allergic Rhinitis Patients

Abstract: Introduction: Asymptomatic sensitization is defined as the presence of positive skin prick test (SPT) and/or positive serum allergen-specific IgE in the absence of clinical allergic symptoms. Currently, there is no convincing explanation why some people with positive allergen tests do not show symptoms. We aimed to investigate the house dust mite (HDM)-specific IgE and IgG4 repertoire in asymptomatic HDM-sensitized subjects and HDM-induced allergic rhinitis (AR) patients. … Show more

“…In terms of allergen binding to effector cells (including mast cells and basophils), IgG4 competes with IgE to prevent these cells from activation and subsequent degranulation (4). Despite the potentially protective effect of IgG4, many studies failed to demonstrate the correlation of IgG4 and clinical response to AIT (5,6).…”

“…20 However, low sIgE level always suggested the individual might be asymptomatic. 21,22 The relatively low sIgE level in our patients implied they might not really be allergic to the pollen or food, while CCD might lead to false-positive results in allergen IgE tests. Thus, it is essential to eliminate the potential impact of CCD on sIgE analysis, especially for those allergens that are already known to contain CCD components.…”

“…The built-in software (version 1.0) exported test results, and the serum samples with an antibody content of more than 0.35 IU/ml were considered positive according to a typical standard curve for sIgE determination ( 29 ). A previous research using this test kit has been published ( 12 14 ). The diagnostic performance of the HDM component sIgE test system was compared with three single components using ImmunoCAP for 39 patients’ sera.…”

“…South China has also been found to have the highest sensitization and levels of HDM allergens ( 12 ). Allergic rhinitis (AR) patients showed more frequent sensitization to Der p 1 and Der p 2 than asymptomatic subjects sensitized to HDM ( 14 ).…”
