“…Commercial instant MT powder has been showed to exhibit various activities, mostly attributed to the high content of polyphenol compounds, such as antioxidant, antinflammatory and chemopreventive properties, inhibitor of atherosclerosis, and bone loss in perimenopause [29,30,[52][53][54]. We previously confirmed the presence of cis-3-Ocaffeoylquinic acid, 5-O-p-coumaroylquinic acid, 3-Oferuloylquinic acid, and 4,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid in instant powder MT [24], which can be detected in plasma and various tissues (liver, kidneys, stomach and muscles)…”

“…However, due to its increasing use in beverages, cosmetics and foods, yerba mate is also becoming popular worldwide. Yerba mate has pharmacological properties such as cardio protection (Godoy et al 2013), and anti-oxidative (Boaventura et al 2013), anti-inflammatory (Heck & Mejia 2007) and hypocholesterolaemic activities (Andersen & Fogh 2001), among others (Lima et al 2014). The content of bioactive compounds in yerba mate is correlated with the form of cultivation and age of the yerba mate tree, use of fertilisers and pesticides, amount of incident light (Coelho et al 2007), climate variability (Rakocevic & Martim 2011), and type of soil.…”
