“…In these studies, the density of the capillaries increased significantly with the maturation of the follicles. Similarly, there was a greater density of blood vessels in the dominant follicle during proestrus than in other phases of the estrus cycle (Feng et al, 2017, Xu et al, 2022).…”

“…Moreover, VEGF treatment increased the diameter of secondary bovine follicles in vitro (Araújo et al, 2014). On the other hand, VEGF inhibition reduced the growth of primary and secondary follicles in ovaries from 3‐ to 4‐day‐old rats (McFee et al, 2009), and increased the number of primordial follicles at 8 weeks augmenting the life span of growing follicles (Xu et al, 2022). These results suggest that VEGF inhibition prevents the activation of primordial follicles and extends the life span of the follicles saving the ovarian reserve in the long term and delaying ovarian senescence (Feng et al 2017; Xu et al, 2022).…”

“…Vascular networks are essential for follicle growth, nutrient exchange, and peptide hormone transport in vivo. As follicles mature, increasing levels of VEGF are expressed by granulosa and theca cells, stimulating an independent vascular network around the follicle to support its development [ 110-112 ]. Therefore, designing materials that promote angiogenesis is essential for the development of a bioprosthetic ovary.…”

“…Nevertheless, robust angiogenesis in ovarian follicles and corpus luteum (CL) was recently uncovered with an imaging system, confirming that the generation of new blood vessels was pivotal to guaranteeing a sufficient supply of nutrients and hormones during follicle maturation and development ( 130 ). It was reported that the administration of axitinib, the blocker of angiogenesis, decreased ovarian follicle consumption, postponed ovarian aging, and extended female reproductive longevity by suppressing follicle recruiting and development ( 130 ). It implied a potential clinical approach to pause lesion progression and delay ovarian aging in patients with OMA.…”
